3 ZODIACS: (1) Sidereal - (2) Tropical - (3) Synetic
  1. Modern Tropical Astrology measures its Zodiac (Tropical Zodiac) by the Equinoxes.  The Vernal or Spring Equinox is also known as the Aries Ingress (When the Sun enters Aries at 00º Aries 00') .. & marks the beginning of the Tropical Zodiac.

The Equinox marks the time when the Earth's North & South Poles are perpendicular to a line drawn between the Earth & the Sun.

This means the Earth is straight up and down during it solar orbit.  The Solstices mark the times when the Earth is tilted its maximum angle either towards or away from the Sun (furthest above or below the Equator - Tropics of Cancer & Capricorn).

Said another way ... the Equinox occurs when the Sun is exact the intersection of the Ecliptic Plane & the Plane of the Earth's Equator.

The difference between the 2 zodiacs is obtained thus:  [1] - Take the Tropical longitude ... add the SVP and subtract one sign.  [2] - Or just subtract the Ayanamsha from the Tropical longitude.

  2. HOWEVER ... Older, more ancient zodiacs did things a bit differently.  They measured the Zodiac  by the "Royal" Fixed Stars, so-called because  they lie exactly along the Ecliptic Plane:

    Aldebaran (15º Taurus - The Bull's Eye)
    Regulus     (05º Leo - The Lion's Heart)
Spica         (29º Virgo - The Ear of Corn)
    Antares     (15º Scorpio - The Scorpion's Heart)

As these Fixed Stars moved ... so did the ancient "sidereal" zodiac.  Fixed stars move at roughly 01º every 71½ - 72 years.

  3. Both the Sidereal & Tropical Zodiacs travel the same circle ... they just start at different points OF that circle.

In 139 BC, Hipparchus said ... 00º degrees Aries starts the circle that Tropical astrology uses today.

But, before that it all started at 08 degrees of each sign.  Hipparchus' system was "tweaked" by Posedonius (a student of Hipparchus)

  4. Claudius Ptolemy adapted the Fixed 00º Aries Vernal  point in 140 AD for his Almagest Star Catalogue;  but still the system took as while to catch on.  Ptolemy reasoned that as the Zodiac was a circle ... it could be said to start just anywhere... so;  why not Spring, the Vernal Equinox?

Let it be noted that there are others who regard the "first of the year" as beginning with the Winter Solstice  (Capricorn Ingress)...  the time when the  greatest darkness or longest night occurs;  then, things turn around and the days begin to steadily lengthen &  increase in light, while the nights begin  to shorten.

Still others prefer The Libra Ingress ... and the list goes on .....

The Chaldeans learned their astrological art from the Egyptians ... in particular, Abraham  worked in a fixed Zodiac which began at 00º  Taurus (15º exactly from Aldebaran .. hence the term "Bull's Eye").  This was known as the Hypsomatic Zodiac... consisting of 12 Zodiac signs of 30 degrees each.

Lahiri says the Fixed Star "Spica" (29º Virgo) marks the beginning of the Zodiac...while a 2nd Indian school says the Star "Revati" in Pisces  marks the beginning of the Zodiac...both are sidereal so in the tropical zodiacs they would mark Libra & Aries respectively

  5. Synetic Vernal Point (SyVP - also SVP):   When the Synetic Vernal Point = 00º of Aquarius, the Age of Aquarius is said to begin.

  6. So, what's a Synetic Vernal Point?  A  mathematical point on the circle of the Ecliptic ... its motion is determined by its own precessional rate.  So sayeth Garth Allen in the May 1957 edition of American Astrology Magazine.

The Synetic Zodiac is adjusted by 06' 05" based on Allen's research into major disasters.

  7. The Sidereal Vernal Point ( also SVP) is determined based upon the Ayanamsha of Choice ... and depending upon just what system, ancient or modern, you decide to use.  It's Your call.

  8. "GARBAGE IN - GARBAGE OUT":  Finally, once you pick a system ... everything depends on how calculations are made ... whose math ... whose  software "program" ... & which system was used.  Even Ephemerides use different calculations and will not always give the same results.  SO ... "try 'em all" and decide for yourself.

  • This sky Chart yields a 00º Aquarius 00' Midheaven .  Here the Vernal Equinox contacts the stars of the actual astronomical Figure of Aquarius.  It also forms a Triangle with The Royal Star Fomalhaut and ... Halley's Comet is alongside Sadalsuud  (Lucky Star of Mighty Destiny).... streaking its way thru the Aquarian Constellation.

ADDENDUM

→

  • The Age of Aquarius is so far away ... will mankind still be here?  If you go by Michael Cremo's work ...and others... there's a good chance ... apparently so.

  • What about the Earth ... will it have flipped over, reversed. wiped mankind out several times over, or ... even have flipped back to the position it occupies now?

  • Does this chart foretell what might come to pass ... even though in a future "when" the chart itself  might no  longer apply ... but;  even so, it might be letting  the us now,  know "now"  what will happen "then" ...  interesting, huh?

  • If so, what might this chart  be telling us about who we presently are... if it is in fact,  describing accurately,  what issues might still be needed to be worked out then ?

    "Food For Thought"

CONCLUSIONS?

  1. If in doubt ... take a look at the skies.  The ancients did.  For them, the Horizon System was the only system.  At least, in recorded memory.  Before that?  Who knows.

  2. Still, in "our present age" we can look up to the skies with "enhanced eyes".  If the Vernal Equinox has to coincide with the Sun being in Aquarius ... then these are the only times I could find that they did so.

  3. Do you count the first time The  Vernal Equinox officially enters the Constellation's borders ... or wait  until it contacts on of the Constellation's Stars (phi aquarii).  Or perhaps wait until (as it just so happens) it conjuncts phi aquarii ... has a 00º Aquarius 00' Midheaven,  and has Halley's Comet to Light Its Way?

  4. Or perhaps ... you prefer another time & space?  Try Your Luck & Skill ... See what you can find!
