| The Value of the Solar Houses in Astrology |
The Arabic Parts are actually based upon the value of the Solar Houses in Astrology.
A Solar House Chart is an equal House Chart where The Sun is the Ascendant....and each house has 30º....with each cusp using the Sun's degree, but with the succeeding signs.
The originators of the Arabic chart saw the value of the Solar Houses and wanted to express them in a chart as a sort of "at a glance" sub strata of information.
There are two types of these Charts:
- A chart wherein the Time of Birth IS known
- A Chart wherein the Time of Birth is NOT known.
When the time of birth IS known, then a chart using the Arabic Parts shows each planet with its position from "2" vantage points.
- Its House position in relationship to the Time of Birth.
- Its House position in relationship to the Sun.
Then, in a Chart where the Birth time IS known, the Parts are found using: Ascendant + a planet or Cusp - a planet or a
cusp....or: said another way....A + B - C ...according to rules given
by a list of Parts.
When assessing the Arabic Parts in a Chart...your first consideration is going to be the House Position of the Part. The Interpretive emphasis is first & foremost: What house is it in?

What About when the Time of Birth is NOT KNOWN?
- OR -
"DOING IT THE OLD FASHIONED WAY"
- With an unknown time of birth...First, start with an equal house chart using 00º Aries as the Ascendant.
- Then, secondly, turn the chart in a circle until the Sun is at the point of the first house cusp...or is now the Ascendant...and erect an equal house Solar Chart with the Sun's degree as the Ascendant and use the Sun's degree for the other house cusps.
- Within this Solar Chart:
- The Moon would mark the Part of Fortune
- Mercury's position would mark the Part of Commerce
- Venus' position would show the Part of Love
- Mars' position would show the Part of Passion
- Jupiter's position would mark the Part of Increase
- Saturn's position would mark the Part of Fatality...But for those with a sense of Responsibility....it would mark the Part of Brethren: those for whom the native would feel a "Sense of Responsibility"
- Uranus' position would mark the Part of Catastrophe
- Neptune's position would mark the Part of Treachery
- Pluto's Position would mark the Part of Organization
TO MAKE YOUR OWN ARABIC DIAL CHART
- All you need is:
- one sheet of 8 1/2" by 11" stiff paper
- a 5 3/4"circle cut out of the same type of stiff paper
- a "brad" fastener
- Put the circle on top of and in the center of the letter size paper.
- Then, using some removable tape to keep them from moving, insert the brad through the center of each ...so the circle is fastened to the 8 1/2" X 11" sheet of paper.
- NEXT: with the removable tape still keeping them from moving; pretend they are one "chart" and draw 12 equal houses on the Chart.
- Label the outside of the houses [1-12] on the Letter size paper
- Label the Inside of the houses with the astrological signs [Aries - Pisces]
- Below is a picture of what it should look like. This is one I used to make for my Students.

HOW DOES AN ARABIC PART FUNCTION IN A CHART?
- Arabic Parts are affected by transits, directions, and Progressions
- Arabic Parts are additional points of Sensitivity & Receptivity
- Arabic Parts have longitudinal degrees, but NOT latitude and declination
- Arabic Parts are derived from the Solar Houses; so, however many degrees a Part is from the Sun, is what house it will fall into. Just ÷ by 30. Anything under 30 degrees will be in the first house.
- The Part of Fortune is the Moon's Solar House position: so,
- If the Sun is at 05º Libra (185º) and
- If the Moon is at 15º Taurus (45º);
- you subtract: 185 minus 45 = 140º
- then: 140º ÷ 30º = 4.6
- So, the Part of Fortune will be in the 4th House of the Natal Chart when the time of birth is known.

- Since the Arabic Parts relate to the Ecliptic and NOT to celestial movements...it is said that as they are more SUN oriented instead of Ascendant oriented (as they would be if the time of birth is known)...then even when the time of birth is known...it is helpful to look at the chart in this manner.
- When this is done...the Personality of an Individual is separated out from the strivings of the Ascendant.
- For the Arabic Parts: Use no more than a 03º orb when working with the Radix Chart.
- Conjunctions are the most important when aspects are considered...but the Oppostion and the Square may be included if a 03º orb is used.

You can also make a LUNAR CHART
If you turn the chart until the Moon becomes the Ascendant, then:
- The Sun now marks the Part of Spirit
- Mercury now marks the Part of Faith
- Venus now marks the Part of Female Children
- (Mars & Saturn did not factor in relation to the Moon)
- Jupiter now marks the Part of Male Children

Go Back To the Solar Chart...and find the Moon. Go in the direction of the signs...go that same distance: now you will have located the Part of Spirit again; but in the Solar Chart.
Now, put this Part of Spirit on the Ascendant
Now, look at the Moon. The Moon now marks the position of the Part of Merchandise.
If now, you take the Dispositer of the Moon (the ruler of the Moon's sign) and put IT as the Ascendant....The Moon itself, now marks the Part of Bondage.
Next, if you take the position of the Lunation or Full Moon preceding the Birth...and put THAT on the Ascendant: you now have, "The Part of Life".
SUPPOSE YOU GET TIRED OF "ROTATING THE CHART"?
- The distance from Saturn to the Sun in degrees, tells you what house the Part of Father is.
- For example: if Saturn is 63º from the Sun...then since 63º is (in an equal house chart with 00º Aries on the Ascendant) going to be in the third house.
- So: since the Part of Father is the relationship between Saturn & the Sun...then the Part of Father would be in the third house.
- The House position of the "PARTS" is the first consideration when beginning to look at interpretation.
| WHAT IF YOU PUT MERCURY ON THE ASCENDANT?
With Mercury on the Ascendant; find the Moon:
- The Moon Now marks the position of: "The Part of Servants
- Mars would now marks the position of: "The Part of Understanding"
WHAT IF YOU PUT VENUS ON THE ASCENDANT?
- The Moon would now mark the position of: "The Part of the Mother"
- Saturn would now mark the position of: "The Part of Fortune in Husbandry"
WHAT IF YOU PUT MARS ON THE ASCENDANT?
- Venus would now mark the position of: "The Part of Plays"
- Jupiter would now mark the position of: "The Part of Discord"
WHAT IF YOU PUT SATURN ON THE ASCENDANT?
- The Sun would now mark the posiiton of: "The Part of Father"
- The Moon would now mark the position of: "The Part of Magistery & Possessions", or; simply..............."The Part of Inheritance"
- Mars would now mark: "The Part of Sickness"
- Jupiter would now mark: "The Part of Brothers & Sisters"
- And, 15º of Cancer would now mark the "Part of Journey's by Water"

| WHEN YOU HAVE THE TIME OF BIRTH |
- With an accurate time of birth....much can be accomplished with Arabic Parts...especially with the House Cusps and their Rulers:
- Make the Ruler of the 2ND House Cusp the Ascendant: The Cusp of the 2nd House now marks the "Part of Goods"
- Make the Ruler of the 9th House Cusp the Ascendant: The Cusp of the 9th House now marks the "Part of Travel by Land"
- Make the Ruler of the 12th House Cusp the Ascendant: The Cusp of the 12th House now marks "The Part of Private Enemies"
- With the Moon as the Ascendant: The cusp of the 8th House now marks the "Part of Death" (here, experience must become regeneration or disintegration)

SOMETIMES IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE IF YOU ARE BORN AT A TIME THAT RESULTS IN THE SUN BEING ABOVE OR BELOW THE HORIZON (The Ascendant-Descendant line is the Horizon):
- If the birth time was at night (use the rule about where it falls in the Chart...above or below the Horizon):
- Above=Day or Houses 12 thru 7
- Below=Night or Houses 1 thru 6)
THEN IF A DAY BIRTH ...
- If you put Jupiter as the Ascendant: then Saturn's House Position = the "Part of Brethren"
- If Venus is on the Ascendant, then the 7th House Cusp = the "Part of Marriage"
- If Saturn is on the Ascendant, then the 8th House Cusp is the "Part of Danger"
- With the Part of Fortune as the Ascendant, then the House Position of the Sun = "The Part of Honorable & Illustrious Acquaintances"
WHAT IF A NIGHT BIRTH?
- With the Sun as Ascendant, the Part of Fortune marks the Point of Honorable & Illustrious Acquaintances
WHAT ELSE?
- The "Part of Sudden Advancement" and the "Part of Father" are the same, unless Saturn is combust. Then in that case, put Jupiter on the Ascendant and the House Position of the Sun marks the "Part of Father" and "Part of Sudden Advancement"
