Since 1950 there have been only 5 "F-5" Tornados in the United States...the last prior to 2008.....was in 1976.
- In 2008 the Parkersburg, Iowa - New Hartford - Dunkerton Tornado was an "EF-5" with winds at 205 MPH.
- This year, 2008 set a new record for Tornados...so I thought ... it deserved its own category page.

- In 2008, Tornados & hail hit Northern Colorado on May 23rd, then Oklahoma & Kansas on May 24th.
- On Monday, May 25th Minnesota & Iowa were hit again. Just after 5 PM , the Mayor of Parkersburg, Iowa , saw 1/3 of his town destroyed. 4 died in Parksburg & 2 died in nearby New Hartford. Parkersburg is located about 80 miles northeast of Des Moines. Dunkerton, about 50 miles to the east of Parkersburg was also hit.
- In Minnesota, Hugo, a suburb of St. Paul was hit severly. The Hugo director of Public Works said his family hid in their basement before the storm hit, but the storm lifted his house off the ground and totally took out the 2nd floor. (In Parkersburg, Iowa, most of the dead (adults, died in their basements)
- In the last 4 days alone there have been 160 reports of Tornados. Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Minnesota, the Ohio River Valley, Kentucky, Colorado...all have been hit.
NOTE: IN 2008 THUS FAR (Jan - May) There have been 1191 Tornados 110 dead

Tornados hit Northern Colorado, Southern Wyoming, & Southern California.
( 1) Just after noon near Platteville (50 miles north of Denver)
- A 2nd Tornado hit 10 miles northwest of Plattevile.
- The hardest hit was Windsor
- I-25 was closed for several hours and 60,000 were without power.
(2) In Wyoming, the alert was just before 3:30 PM; the Tornado was spotted by law enforcement 10 miles southeast of Cheyenne and several roads (including I-80) were closed between Cheyenne & Laramie due to the weather.
(3) In California: at 4:38 PM local time, A tornado was tracked moving south near Moreno Valley in Riverside County. A TV helicopter showed freight cars and a trucking rig all overturned.
